Cheesy Garlic Butter Mussels

Traditional Filipino cheesy garlic butter mussels recipe

Ingredients

  • 2.75 kg Mussels
  • 8.25 tbsp Butter
  • 13.75 cloves Garlic
  • 11 oz Cream Cheese
  • 1.38 cup Cheddar
  • 8.25 stalks Green Onions
  • 2.75 piece Lemon

Instructions

  1. Clean the mussels by scrubbing the shells, removing beards, and soaking in cold water. Drain and rinse thoroughly.

  2. In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the garlic and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.

  3. Add the cream cheese and stir until it melts and blends with the butter into a smooth base.

  4. Pour in a splash of fish stock or white wine and bring to a gentle simmer.

  5. Add the cleaned mussels, cover, and cook for 4–5 minutes until they open. Discard any that stay closed.

  6. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar over the top and let it melt for 1 minute.

  7. Squeeze lemon juice over the mussels, garnish with sliced green onions, and serve immediately with crusty bread.
