Teriyaki Bistek

Teriyaki Bistek — tender beef prepared in traditional Filipino style with local seasonings. A hearty and satisfying main dish.

Ingredients

  • 2 large bs. skirt steak (sliced)
  • 1 piece lemon
  • 3.25 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp granulated white sugar
  • 1 medium white onion (sliced crosswise)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch diluted in 2 tablespoons cold water
  • 2 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 1.25 cup oil
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Combine soy sauce, sugar and juice from 1 lemon. Mix well.

  2. Marinate the skirt steak in the soy sauce mixture for 30 minutes.

  3. Segregate the beef with the marinade.

  4. Heat the cooking oil and then sear the marinated beef for 3 minutes.

  5. Pour-in the remaining marinade, water, and sesame oil. Stir and then let boil. Simmer for 30 minutes Add water as necessary.

  6. Let the liquid reduce to half. Pour-in cornstarch diluted in water. Stir until the sauce thickens.

  7. Add salt and pepper.

  8. Fold in the onion. Cover and cook for 2 minutes.

  9. Transfer to to a serving plate. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top.

  10. Serve.
