Steamed Cassava Cake

Cassava-based dessert — chewy, sweet, and often topped with coconut or custard. A Filipino classic.

Ingredients

  • 680.4 g (24 oz) grated cassava
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 396.9 g (14 oz) can condensed milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 6 tbsp melted butter
  • 0.5 cup shredded quick melt or sharp cheddar cheese
  • 5 cup water for steaming

Instructions

  1. Pour in water into a cooking pot. Let boil.

  2. Combine grated cassava, coconut milk, butter, eggs, and condensed milk in a large bowl. Mix well using a wire whisk.

  3. Add the cassava mixture into individual molds. Arrange the molds in a steamer. Steam the cassava cake for 45 minutes.

  4. Take off the molds with cassava cake from the steamer. Let it cool down.

  5. Gently separate the cassava cake from the mold. Arrange on a plate. Top with shredded cheese.

  6. Serve.
