Corned Beef Nilaga

Ingredients

  • 4 cup water
  • 1 tbsp beef base or 1 piece beef bouillon
  • 1 onion, peeled and quartered
  • 0.5 tsp peppercorns, crushed
  • 1 large potato, peeled and cut into cubes
  • 8 g beans, ends trimmed
  • 1 can corned beef, chunky-style
  • 0.5 piece cabbage, quartered
  • 0 salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a pot on medium heat, combine water, beef base, onions, and peppercorns. Bring it to a boil. stirring until the beef base is dissolved.

  2. Add potatoes. Lower heat and simmer until tender.

  3. Add green beans and Cook it until half-cooked.

  4. Add corned beef and cabbage. With the back of the spoon, break corned beef into desired pieces.

  5. Keep cooking until beef is heated through and vegetables are tender yet crisp.

  6. Add salt and pepper to taste. Serve while hot.

  7. Use a chunky variety of canned corned beef. My favorite brands are Martin Purefoods, Palm, Ox & Palm, and Argentina.

  8. Gently break the corned beef into large pieces and limit stirring the soup to keep the meat in chunks.
